Kostbergan Beach Long Exposure Photography With Dark Coastal Rocks
Silky Water Finds Paths Between Heavy Norwegian Shore Rocks
I used a long exposure at Kostbergan Beach in Norway to let the moving water stretch around the rocks. Instead of stopping each breaking wave, the photograph gathers that movement into soft, pale streams. The dark stones keep their rough surfaces and firm outlines, making the contrast between water and rock the centre of the image.
What first caught my attention was the way the sea found paths through the shore. In the square composition, a broad foreground rock leads towards smaller stones surrounded by white water, with a large angular boulder on the right. The long exposure connects those separate shapes, carrying the eye through narrow channels and around their edges. Above them, heavy clouds form a darker layer, while the distant horizon remains low and simple. I wanted the water’s softness to remain part of a rugged scene, rather than turning the coast into something delicate.
I am often drawn to the meeting of stone and moving water because the photograph can hold two different senses of time together. Here, the rocks feel substantial while the sea becomes almost weightless around them. The muted grey-green tones keep the mood subdued and allow the fine surface of the stone to remain visible. As a print, it offers an atmospheric coastal view for someone who enjoys dark landscapes and natural texture. For me, it recalls the Norwegian shore as I experienced it: exposed, restless and full of changing water, even when the finished image seems quiet.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
