Peggys Cove Seashells Coastal Nature Photography
Small Spirals Among Pebbles and Strands of Seaweed
Looking down can reveal a different kind of coastal landscape. At Peggy’s Cove in Nova Scotia, I found this dense gathering of shells, pebbles and seaweed along the shore. The colour photograph stays close to the ground, letting the small spiral forms take the place of a more familiar view of rocks and open sea.
What interests me is the variation within the repeated shapes. Some shells show their rounded, striped backs; others reveal a pale opening or a worn edge. Brown, grey and cream tones sit together among smaller fragments, while dark strands of seaweed wander through the arrangement. There is no single shell that needs to carry the whole photograph. I like moving between the clusters and discovering how differently each one catches the light. The pebbles and broken pieces make the surface feel uneven, giving the curves something rougher to sit against.
I photographed this shoreline detail in 2014. It is a view that asks for a little patience, because its strongest features are modest ones: a pale curve, a dark opening, the shift from a smooth shell to coarse gravel. That close attention is what I wanted to keep. For someone who enjoys beachcombing or coastal nature photography, the image offers a quieter connection to the shore, with natural colours and intricate detail that remain interesting beyond the first glance.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
