City Walls And Harbour Lights Beneath An Orange Sky
Warm evening light sits above Dubrovnik as the first bright points along the waterfront begin to stand out. From this elevated view, I could see the old town projecting into the Adriatic, with the harbour beside it and the newer city spreading across the slopes beyond. I liked how the coastline gives a clear shape to a scene with so much architectural detail.
The outer walls form a strong edge against the water. Inside them, tightly packed rooftops build a denser pattern, while lights mark parts of the harbour and the buildings close to shore. The sea remains comparatively simple, with small changes in tone and a pale trace across the foreground leading towards the city.
Beyond Dubrovnik, successive hills and islands appear as darker silhouettes against the glowing sky. Their softer outlines provide distance behind the more detailed buildings. The colour shifts from orange and gold near the horizon to muted purple-grey over the water, giving the photograph its settled evening palette.
I made this image in 2020, drawn to the moment when the city’s lights and the remaining daylight could share the composition. The view offers several places for the eye to pause: the walls, the harbour, the roofline and the distant landforms. As Croatian travel wall art, it suits someone who enjoys coastal cities seen in their wider setting. Its warm sky and illuminated waterfront bring an evening atmosphere to a living room, office or study.
