Lunenburg Harbour Sailboats and Hillside Homes Black and White Photography
Masts and a Church Spire Rise Above the Waterfront
From Cove Road, I looked across Lunenburg Harbour toward boats, waterfront buildings and the houses climbing the hill behind them. I made this photograph in Nova Scotia in 2014, on a summer day when clouds gave the sky as much character as the town below. Three sailboats occupy the foreground, their slender masts linking the rippled water to the architecture.
The shore gathers into a dense arrangement of gabled roofs, pale walls and dark windows. A large vessel at the left gives the waterfront a strong anchor, while the sailboats remain light and separate on the water. Above the buildings, a church spire rises into the clouds. I like how that single pointed form draws the eye upward through the layered town.
Keeping the photograph in black and white makes the different rooflines and building shapes easy to follow. Light houses stand out against leafy trees, and the boat rigging creates fine vertical lines across the lower part of the scene. The water gives the composition breathing room. Its small ripples offer a different texture from the compact windows and walls behind it.
This harbour photograph brings the maritime character of Lunenburg into a room through its everyday details. It suits a coastal living space, a study or a gallery wall with Canadian travel images. I enjoy the balance between the boats and the hillside: the harbour remains the point of entry, but there is a whole town to explore beyond it.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
