A Weathered Barn Beneath Open Sky And Distant Turbines
A weathered barn stands beyond a flat field, with wind turbines rising behind a line of bare trees. I photographed this Ontario farm scene for its clear arrangement of shapes: a broad roof, fine branches, slender turbine towers and a large expanse of sky. The view has a spare quality that lets each part remain distinct.
The barn sits to the right of the composition. Its vertical boards and corrugated roof give it a denser texture than the field around it, making the building a natural place for the eye to rest. A smaller pale outbuilding appears farther along the edge, adding another simple form without crowding the scene.
Across the foreground, field markings and low boundary lines run horizontally. The trees interrupt those bands with delicate branching shapes, and the turbines extend higher still. I like how the photograph brings these different scales together: the nearest ground is broad and quiet, the barn is solid, and the distant blades are light against the sky.
I made this image in 2015 and chose black and white to keep attention on those relationships. The rural setting contains both familiar farm structures and newer additions to the horizon, but the picture leaves room for the viewer to consider them. As wall art, it offers an understated Canadian landscape for a study, office or country home, especially for someone drawn to barns, open fields and uncluttered photographic compositions.
