Garak Tower East From Street Level Monochrome Architectural Photography

A Street Directory Beneath Curving Facade Lines and Open Sky

At the base of Garak Tower East in Seoul’s Seocho district, I angled the camera upward to follow its curved facade into the sky. This monochrome photograph keeps a street directory close in the foreground, placing everyday signs beneath the much larger building. The tower’s vertical lines bend as they rise, while a neighbouring block adds a straighter grid on the right.

The directory gives the lower left a different scale of detail. Its stacked panels and lettering are easy to recognize, even as their edges lean through the upward view. Behind it, the facade has broader pale sections and dark channels that continue well beyond the signs. I wanted that change in scale to stay part of the composition.

Reflections appear in the lower glazing, bringing fragments of nearby buildings into the tower’s surface. Higher up, the repeated lines become more tightly grouped against the clouds. Monochrome brings the brighter panels, darker ribs and softer sky into one tonal arrangement without making them look like the same material. Standing on the street, I was drawn to how the building’s curve changed from this close position. The photograph holds that perspective, with the directory keeping it grounded in a place people use. I can follow the tower upward while still seeing where the view began: beside a sign at street level in Seoul.

About My Fine Art Photography

Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.

I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.

My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
