Small Timber Sheds Among Fenced Hillside Fields
Small wooden farm buildings are scattered across a sunlit Romanian hillside, each surrounded by its own arrangement of fences and open ground. The nearest shed stands just beyond a dark picket fence, with more modest structures climbing the slope behind it. I photographed this rural scene in black and white, letting the buildings and boundaries form a clear pattern across the land.
The foreground shed gives the view a place to begin. Its pale timber boards and pitched roof are easy to distinguish from the finer fencing around it. Beyond, rail fences cross the hill at different angles, linking the smaller buildings visually without making them feel crowded. A patch of leafless trees occupies the middle distance, and a darker wooded ridge enters from the left.
I like that the scene contains both repeated forms and small differences. Roofs recur at several scales, yet each building sits differently within the slope. The pickets near the camera create a dense line, while the more distant rails have a lighter rhythm. Sunlight helps separate those details, leaving the open fields with a quieter tone. The photograph can be read as a whole landscape, then explored building by building.
Made in 2011, this image offers a grounded view of Romania’s countryside through everyday agricultural structures. It suits someone who enjoys rustic architecture, rural photography or landscapes shaped by ordinary work. In a study or living area, its monochrome palette brings a settled presence, with enough variety in the fences, roofs and wooded slopes to keep the eye moving.
