Romanian Farm Duck In Wooden Doorway Black And White Photograph
A White Duck At The Threshold Of A Weathered Shed
The white duck stands clearly against the dark doorway of a wooden farm building in Romania. I came across the scene while travelling through the countryside and photographed it in 2011. In black and white, the bird becomes a small bright focal point within a much larger arrangement of weathered boards, shingles, and rough ground.
What appeals to me is the difference in scale. The duck occupies only a little of the frame, yet the doorway’s darkness makes it easy to find. Above it, rows of roof shingles create a broad repeated pattern. Around it, horizontal timber gives the wall another rhythm, with worn edges and uneven tones visible throughout.
An open slatted gate leans to one side of the entrance. A short wooden ramp extends down toward the foreground, and a shovel rests against the wall nearby. These details give the scene a practical farm setting without needing a wider view of fields or buildings. The bird’s profile provides a softer shape among all those straight lines.
I wanted to preserve the charm of the encounter through what was visible: one duck, an open threshold, and the texture of an ordinary rural building. The monochrome treatment keeps the photograph simple while leaving plenty of detail to explore. It offers a modest country scene for someone who enjoys farm photography and the small moments that can make a familiar setting memorable.
