Rome Pantheon Columns From Below Black and White Architectural Photography
Carved Capitals and Inscribed Stone Rise Toward Clouds
Standing beneath the Pantheon’s entrance, I was struck by how much the scale changed from the view across the square. The columns rose directly above me, carrying my eye toward their carved capitals and the stonework overhead. I photographed this angle while exploring Rome on foot in 2024, using the upward view to bring the building’s substantial forms close to the frame.
The nearest columns continue beyond the lower edge, making their height feel especially pronounced. Behind them, other shafts and capitals appear at different depths. Dark spaces under the portico separate the pale stone, while the inscription runs diagonally across the upper facade. The detailed carving along the top adds a finer pattern above the larger, simpler shapes of the columns.
I chose black and white to give the stone surfaces and the arrangement of light and shadow room to speak. Fine marks remain visible along the shafts, and the carved forms at their tops catch brighter light. Clouds occupy the opening above the roofline, providing a softer texture beside the precise architectural details. I like the way the photograph holds the broad strength of the structure alongside those smaller variations.
This view of the Pantheon offers a close architectural connection to Rome. Its vertical composition can give a study or living space a strong focal point, particularly for someone who enjoys classical buildings and stone textures. The photograph preserves the feeling of looking upward from the entrance, where the columns become both a pattern and a measure of the space around you.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
