Abandoned Buildings Above a British Columbia Shore | Monochrome Photography

Weathered Houses and Fallen Timber Below a Misty Forest

A row of abandoned wooden buildings stands above a rough shoreline in this British Columbia photograph. I chose black and white to bring their pale walls forward against the darker forest behind them. Below, fallen timber and broken structures cover the slope down to the water, giving the scene several layers of wear within one view.

Some buildings retain a recognizable house shape, with pitched roofs and window openings. Others reveal exposed framing or lean into the surrounding debris. I like how those different conditions remain visible together. The photograph does not reduce the place to one isolated ruin; it shows a group of structures sharing the same overgrown shore.

The forest above is softer in tone, with mist fading the upper trees into pale grey. That atmosphere separates the darker trunks from the sharper edges of the buildings below. Across the foreground, long pieces of wood lie near the water, creating horizontal lines beneath the steeper slope and roof shapes. The scene has a roughness that extends well beyond the walls.

When I look at this image, the connection between the buildings and their surroundings is what stays with me. Vegetation grows around the structures, the slope carries fragments toward the shore, and the forest continues behind everything. For someone interested in abandoned places, this photograph offers both architectural detail and a sense of setting. I prefer to let the visible surfaces tell what they can without assigning a history that the picture cannot confirm. The place holds its own quiet presence through the remaining buildings, mist, and scattered timber.

About My Fine Art Photography

Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.

I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.

My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
