Six Panes Of Glass Beneath A Curving Wall Shadow
A curved shadow sweeps above this farmhouse window in rural Romania, leaving the frame and much of the cracked wall in warm light. I was drawn to the order of the six panes against the irregular plaster. This colour photograph stays with a small architectural detail, where faded wood, blue reflections, and uneven surfaces provide all the interest I need.
The upper panes carry the clearest blue, while the taller sections below remain darker. Traces of paint linger along the wooden frame, and the projecting sill casts a thin shadow of its own. Those restrained colours sit comfortably within the pale, earthy wall rather than separating the window from its surroundings.
I kept the composition close to square, with enough space around the window to let the light show its shape. A harder shadow enters from the left beneath the broad curve overhead. At the bottom, missing plaster exposes a row of diagonal wooden laths, adding another pattern beyond the window's grid.
The wall rewards a slower look. Fine cracks spread across the shaded upper surface; lower down, the plaster becomes rougher and more broken. I like that the photograph has a clear centre but no polished finish. The straight lines of the window hold it together, while every nearby surface offers a different texture. It is a quiet piece of rural Romanian architecture, observed through the light falling across it.
