Old Facades and Curled Street Lamps Along an Empty Lane
The street is quiet enough for the buildings to hold my attention. I photographed these old houses at dawn in Brasov, Romania, looking along their facades as they recede towards the left. The subdued monochrome treatment gives the view a darker mood, with pale window surrounds and small areas of light standing out against the walls.
I like the changes in height and detail from one building to the next. Tall, decorated windows sit beside a lower roofline, and a broad plain gable rises farther back. The nearest facade has more elaborate trim, while worn plaster and darker openings give the buildings beyond a simpler appearance. That variety makes the row feel lived with rather than uniformly restored.
The street lamps add a finer rhythm. Their curled brackets project from the walls, placing small dark shapes against the lighter facades. Below them, the paving sweeps through the foreground with very little to interrupt it apart from a few small birds. I kept that open ground in the frame because it gives the architecture room and makes the early-hour stillness easier to feel.
For me, this is a dawn photograph about detail rather than a bright sunrise. The light reveals enough of the windows, roof tiles and decorative edges to let the eye move through the row, while the sky and upper gable remain subdued. As a vertical print, it offers an atmospheric Romanian street view, with the empty lane connecting the different buildings into one quiet composition.
