Two Phillips 66 Pumps Beside a Row of Chairs

Two Phillips 66 pumps and six mismatched metal chairs share a sheltered wall along Route 66. I photographed this roadside scene in colour, drawn to the worn green pump, its shorter red neighbour and the muted tones of the seating beside them. A broad area of plain wall above the objects gives the arrangement a sense of space, with cracked concrete spreading across the foreground.

I came across the scene during a drive along the highway and pulled over when the light and geometry caught my attention. The taller pump has a round sign above its narrow body, while the lower one carries a pale top and a red front. The chairs continue the line towards the right, their curved backs repeating in different colours and states of wear. Some surfaces remain light; others show dark patches and rust. I liked that repetition without uniformity, especially the way the tall pump interrupts the otherwise low row.

The photograph keeps the ordinary setting visible: a closed door at the left, a shaded overhang and a floor marked by use. Those details give the objects somewhere to belong. I enjoy Route 66 photographs that come from these smaller stops, where the visual character of a place rests in things that might otherwise be passed by. This image offers a restrained colour accent for a room with an interest in vintage motoring or Americana. For me, it preserves a roadside pause and the unexpected balance I found between old pumps, empty chairs and open space.

About My Fine Art Photography

Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.

I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.

My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
