Wyoming Open Highway and Rolling Hills Black and White Print
Centre Lines Lead Toward a Quiet Horizon of Low Hills
The road leads straight ahead before bending into Wyoming’s low, rolling hills. I photographed this open highway in black and white, with the centre lines carrying the eye from the foreground into the distance. Pale grasses, scattered rock formations and a clear sky give the landscape a simple, spacious character.
Close to the camera, the asphalt has a fine, grainy texture. The painted lines narrow as they approach the hills, and the road’s shoulders make another pair of edges to follow. Beyond them, the ground rises and dips gently. Small dark shrubs and rocks break up the light slopes without becoming separate points of focus.
I made the image during a journey through Wyoming in 2022. What drew me to this view was the relationship between the direct route of the highway and the softer contours around it. The monochrome treatment brings those shapes together, keeping the scene quiet and letting the open sky hold its place above the land.
For someone who enjoys road trips, wide country or photographs of the American West, this print offers a familiar sense of looking ahead. It can work as a calm focal point in a study, living room or workspace, with enough detail to notice close up and a clear structure from further away. For me, the road is the invitation: a line that can be followed through the picture without needing to know what lies beyond the next bend.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
