1953 Chevrolet Bel Air Front View Route 66 Monochrome Photography
Round Headlights and Chrome Frame a Classic Chevrolet
The front of this 1953 Chevrolet Bel Air stopped me during a Route 66 visit to Gardner, Illinois. Round headlights, a wide chrome grille, and heavy bumper guards give the car a strong, nearly symmetrical face. I photographed it head-on and used monochrome to keep the curves, reflections, and small details at the centre of the image.
The hood carries delicate pinstriping above the Chevrolet emblem. Below it, several layers of metalwork stretch across the nose, each catching the light differently. The darker bodywork makes the bright chrome easier to read, while the licence plate provides another compact detail beneath the grille. I wanted the picture to feel like a portrait of the car rather than a passing roadside view.
Meeting its owner became part of that visit. He shared stories about growing up with the Chevrolet and showed me his workshop, where he was restoring vintage cars and trucks. Encounters like that give my Route 66 photographs a connection beyond the objects themselves. Here, the familiar lawn and trees remain visible behind the car, keeping it in the setting where I found it.
This photograph suits someone drawn to classic American automotive design and the personal side of road travel. From across a room, the head-on shape and bright grille are unmistakable. Up close, the pinstriping, chrome reflections, and layered front end offer more to examine. The monochrome palette brings those details together without losing the Chevrolet’s individual character.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
