Golden Alaska Ocean Reflection Abstract Water Photography
Bronze Ripples Across a Broad Path of Sunlight
From the window of a small plane, the ocean became a field of bronze and gold. We were lifting away from the Alaskan shoreline when the sun’s angle created this broad reflection on the water. I kept looking down, fascinated by the small differences in brightness across an otherwise simple view.
The photograph has no horizon. Instead, a lighter path runs through the rippled surface, with darker water around it. Fine marks gather into larger bands, and each change in the surface catches the light a little differently. What first seems like one golden area becomes many separate reflections when I look closely.
I took this photograph during a coastal flight in 2011. As the aircraft gained altitude, the angle changed and the reflection soon disappeared. That brief opportunity was part of what made the scene worth photographing: the subject was ordinary water, but the view depended on a particular relationship between light and position.
I wanted the whole frame to stay about that relationship. The darker ripples give the brightness a structure, while the warm colour connects the more complicated surface details. I enjoy the photograph both as an ocean view and as an abstract pattern. From a distance, it can be read as a broad passage of light; closer looking brings back the individual ripples and the constant small changes that make a water surface interesting.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
