Gdańsk Riverfront Lights and Reflections Black and White Photography

A Line of Lamps Reaches Into the Dark Water

One row of lights holds this whole riverfront view together. In Gdańsk, Poland, I framed the buildings along the left bank and let the lamps continue toward the darker distance. Their reflections stretch down into the water, giving the black and white photograph a second pattern beneath the city.

The nearer façades have enough light to reveal windows, roof shapes and small details at street level. Farther along the bank, the buildings become less distinct, while the lamps remain easy to follow. I like how that change creates depth without needing a brightly lit skyline. The water carries long pale streaks below each light, with broader dark reflections from the buildings between them. Those vertical marks contrast with the diagonal line of the riverbank, making the composition feel ordered even in the low light.

I left the sky and the right side of the water relatively open. That darkness matters: it gives the lit bank room and keeps the view from feeling crowded with detail. A brightly illuminated tree near the middle creates a softer shape among the harder edges of the buildings. For me, the scene works through a small number of clear contrasts rather than a great many colours. This print brings a quiet city at night into a room, with the river reflections adding movement to an otherwise restrained architectural view.

About My Fine Art Photography

Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.

I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.

My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
