Howser Spire Mountain Reflection Black and White Photography Print
Rock Spires Rise Above Evergreens and a Quiet Pond
Howser Spire rises sharply above the trees in this black and white photograph from the Bugaboos in British Columbia. Below, a small pond carries a softer reflection of the rock and evergreens, with a single large stone breaking the surface near the foreground. I was drawn to the balance between the steep mountain forms and the quieter water.
The upper rock faces show long grooves and strong changes in light, with patches of snow gathered between them. Trees form a dense middle layer, their fine branches contrasting with the broader stone surfaces above. In the pond, those same elements become less distinct. Their reflection remains recognisable, but the water gives them a gentler outline.
I photographed this scene in 2011. What I enjoy is the foreground rock’s role in the view. Its rough, bright top and dark shadow give the eye something close to settle on before moving across the reflection and toward the peaks. The monochrome treatment keeps these different textures connected while allowing each to retain its character.
For someone who loves mountain country, British Columbia or nature photographs in black and white, this print can bring a clear outdoor presence to a living room, cottage or study. There is an immediate sense of height, followed by quieter details in the water and trees. For me, that combination makes the picture interesting to live with: imposing rock above, a much softer version of it below.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
