Gdańsk Fishing Boats and Deck Gear Monochrome Photo Print
Winches, Ropes and Wheelhouse Windows Fill a Crowded Deck
The deck is so full of equipment that the eye has to find its own route through it. At the port of Gdańsk, Poland, I photographed these old fishing vessels in black and white, letting the winches, ropes and wheelhouse form a close, layered maritime scene. The boat beside them is only partly visible, but it makes the setting feel even more compact.
Two winches occupy the lower centre of the frame. Their wound lines and worn metal surfaces give the foreground weight, while a loose rope crosses toward the edge. Behind them, the wheelhouse rises with a mixture of rectangular windows and round fittings. I like how those different shapes keep the machinery from becoming a single dark mass.
Above the cabin, masts and rigging reach into a much lighter sky. The thin lines give the photograph another scale of detail, drawing attention upward after the heavier deck equipment. The vertical framing holds those layers together without needing a broad harbour view.
The monochrome treatment makes small differences in surface easier to see. Pale areas on the deck and cabin contrast with the darker ropes, netting and mechanical parts. Nothing looks polished or arranged for the camera.
The vessel’s practical details are what hold my attention in this 2013 photograph. For a room with a nautical character, it offers a detailed view of fishing equipment and everyday boat architecture, with enough texture to remain interesting at close range.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
