Gdansk Produce Market After Dark | Black and White Photo Print
An Illuminated Produce Stall Beneath Gdansk’s Dark Rooflines
Most of the street has fallen into shadow, but the produce stall remains bright. In this black and white photograph from Gdansk, Poland, the illuminated fruit and vegetable displays form a broad band beneath a dark tiled roof. I was drawn to that ordinary pocket of activity within the quieter nighttime city.
The light reaches across the produce, shelves, and stacked crates before spilling onto the paving in front. I kept the whole stall in view so its arrangement would be clear: a long awning, dense displays below it, and a small central opening leading farther inside. The buildings behind remain visible through rooflines and scattered lit windows, but they carry far less detail. Their darker forms give the market’s light somewhere to stand out.
A moving figure on the left becomes a soft blur during the prolonged exposure. I like that trace of a person among the more firmly defined shelves and crates. It gives the scene a different sense of time without turning the passerby into its main subject. The monochrome treatment connects the bright displays, dark surroundings, and small reflections on the cobbled street. For me, the photograph is about how much character a familiar commercial space can acquire after dark. It can bring an urban food-market scene to a kitchen or dining room, with everyday abundance held inside a restrained, quietly atmospheric view.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
