Two Men at Work in Kochi Black and White Photography
Two Different Gazes Within a Weathered Indian Workspace
One man looks down at the work surface; the other looks directly at me. I photographed this working moment in Kochi, India, in black and white. The difference in their attention gives the image its centre, while the doorway and worn walls keep both figures connected to the place around them.
The younger man extends a hand across the foreground, standing before a lighter section of wall. Behind him, the older man is framed by a dark open doorway. I liked how each figure occupies a different tonal space without being separated from the other. Their hands link them to the stacked materials and counter below.
The printed portrait on the younger man's T-shirt adds an unexpected third face. It faces outward even as he looks down, creating another direction within the composition. I kept that detail alongside the wooden doors, hanging containers and rough plaster because it belongs to the scene rather than to a planned arrangement for the photograph.
Monochrome makes these relationships easy to follow: bright foreground surfaces, a pale wall, the darker opening and two clearly visible people. I did not need to know or explain their relationship for the portrait to work. What interests me is how they share a workspace while giving the camera different responses. The photograph preserves an ordinary moment through gesture and setting, with enough surrounding texture to make a closer look worthwhile.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
