La Bodeguita Del Medio Havana Black And White Street Photography
A Crowd Beneath The Sign On A Narrow Street
People gather outside La Bodeguita del Medio while the narrow Havana street continues into the distance. I photographed the scene as I found it in 2017, choosing black and white to bring attention to the crowd, the handwritten walls, and the different postures within the busy entrance area. The bar’s hanging sign anchors the upper part of the view.
What interests me is the mixture of stillness and movement. Several people cluster near the doorway, one woman sits beside the wall, and another walks toward the camera along the brighter side of the street. Each occupies a slightly different part of the scene. I can observe their positions without pretending to know what they were thinking.
The architecture gives those everyday actions a clear setting. Tall windows and doors repeat along the facade, while balconies and overhead wires lead farther down the lane. The writing around the entrance creates a dense texture close to the crowd. Lower in the frame, paving and uneven patches of road provide a quieter foreground.
Monochrome helps hold all these details together. Light clothing separates from darker figures, and the shadowed entrance contrasts with the sunlit pavement. I wanted to keep the scene’s ordinary complexity rather than turn it into a tidy postcard view. The photograph offers a close look at a shared place in Havana: a recognisable bar, a crowded threshold, and a street that carries on beyond them.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
