Indian Woman With Silver Hair Black and White Photography
Close Framing With Pale Space Beside Her Face
Her gaze carries the portrait before the smaller details begin to register. I photographed this woman in Kampalapura, India, in black and white, keeping her face large within the frame. Loose silver hair extends outward into a pale background, leaving space beside her rather than centring the head as a formal studio portrait.
What drew me in was the directness of the encounter. The eyes, slightly open mouth and angle of her head give the photograph a particular expression without explaining what she is thinking. I wanted that openness to remain. The close view preserves the fine lines around her eyes and the changes in texture across her face.
The hair provides a lighter edge above and around the darker facial tones. Individual strands cross into the empty area at the right, making it part of the composition rather than simply unused background. Only a little of the surrounding setting remains, so the portrait does not depend on an identifiable building or street.
I like how the image works at more than one distance. The gaze and asymmetrical arrangement are clear from across a room, while closer viewing reveals the hair, skin and softer tonal transitions. Its restraint comes from the simple framing and limited surroundings. It keeps attention on the woman I encountered, allowing her expression to remain the strongest presence in the photograph.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
