A Defiant Street Portrait in Buenos Aires
There are moments in street photography when everything happens so quickly that instinct takes over. I photographed this young girl in Buenos Aires while a group of kids were playing around a fountain and nearby statue. There was a restless energy around them, something slightly chaotic and unsettling, and I stayed nearby with my camera watching the interactions unfold.
Then she turned toward me.
Her expression, raised arms, direct stare, and irreverent gesture came together almost instantly. What makes the photograph work for me, though, is not simply what she is doing. It is everything happening around that gesture. The strong Buenos Aires sunlight throws her exaggerated shadow across the stone wall beside her, almost creating a second character in the photograph. Her bare feet, the small bundle lying on the pavement, the decorative wall and that enormous area of empty stone all contribute to the strange balance of the frame.
This is the kind of moment I look for in street photography wall art where something unplanned that could never be recreated quite the same way. I did not arrange her position, ask for the expression or direct the gesture. I was simply there when all of those elements briefly aligned.
I chose black and white because color was unnecessary here. The photograph is fundamentally about light, gesture, expression and shape. Removing color gives the hard sunlight and deep shadow greater authority while allowing the girl's personality to dominate the image. The enormous pale wall also becomes an important part of the composition rather than merely a background.
There is humor in the photograph, but there is also tension. I remember the scene as more complicated than the playful gesture might initially suggest, and perhaps that is one reason the image has stayed with me. Street photography can preserve those contradictions without necessarily explaining them. A single fraction of a second can leave questions behind.
I produce this photograph as a limited edition of only 10 prints across all sizes. Each print is personally made and signed by me using archival pigment inks on premium archival paper and includes my signed certificate of authenticity.

Limited Edition of 10
This photograph is released as a signed and numbered limited edition of only 10 prints in total across all available sizes combined—not 10 prints in each size.
Every size is drawn from the same edition. Whether the photograph is purchased as a small print or at the largest available size, it uses one of the 10 edition numbers.
I personally sign and number each print on the reverse, and every print is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity recording its title, dimensions, medium, edition number, and date of issue.
Once all 10 prints have been sold, the edition will be permanently closed. No additional numbered editions of the photograph will be produced in another size or format.
Premium Archival Fine Art Prints
I personally produce every photograph using archival pigment inks on premium archival paper with a subtle luster finish.
The paper provides rich tonal depth, excellent fine-detail reproduction, and a refined surface that reduces distracting glare under normal indoor lighting. It is especially well suited to both color and black-and-white photography.
Each photograph is sold as an unframed fine art print, allowing it to be framed according to the collector’s space and personal style.
Before a print leaves my studio, I carefully inspect it for color, tonal accuracy, surface quality, and overall presentation. Nothing is outsourced, and every finished print passes through my hands.
