Harrington’s Store Dawson City Black and White Architectural Photography
A Corner Entrance and Projecting Window Beneath Northern Clouds
Harrington’s Store caught my attention on a quiet day in Dawson City, Yukon. Seen from the corner, its two pale wooden facades meet beneath a projecting upper window, with broad storefront glazing on either side of the entrance. I photographed it in black and white under a clouded sky, keeping the whole building and a little of the street in view.
The corner gives the architecture a clear centre without making the two sides identical. Paired doors sit below the upper window, while the wall on each side follows a different angle into the frame. Horizontal siding brings the facades together, and the larger cornice continues their outline at roof level. I liked how that arrangement felt balanced while still showing depth.
Closer details add a quieter pattern. Window divisions form small rectangles, curtains are visible upstairs, and dark panels at the doors break the broad pale surfaces. Soft light allowed those details to remain clear. In monochrome, they sit within a fairly restrained range of tones, rather than competing with the building’s main shape.
I wanted the cloudy sky to stay part of the photograph because it gives the straight roofline a less regular backdrop. Below, the open road leaves space around the base of the store. The view holds what made me stop: a distinctive corner building, simple siding and carefully arranged windows, standing firmly within the streetscape of Dawson City.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
