Bare Vines Trace Brick Beside a Snow-Covered Lane
Snow softens the narrow lane, but the wall beside it remains wonderfully detailed. I photographed this winter corner of Oslo in black and white, with bare vines spreading across the brick and wooden houses stepping down the street. It was the kind of place I noticed while walking without a fixed plan, letting smaller parts of the city draw my attention.
At the right, a pale door sits beneath the number 14. The vines wander around it and across the windows, making an irregular pattern against the straight lines of the brickwork. Below, a low border and a few steps meet the snow. I like how much texture stays visible even in a scene with such subdued light.
The lane slopes away past the timber houses, whose vertical boards contrast with the brick in the foreground. Snow rests along their roof tiles and gathers beside the walls. Farther down, a larger building closes the view with a repeated row of windows. Those different scales give the little street depth without needing a grand landmark.
I kept the empty lane as an open path through the photograph. It lets the eye move from the close wall toward the houses and the town beyond, following a gentle change in tone. The winter morning made this ordinary residential setting feel especially quiet. Wood, brick, bare growth and snow each have their own surface, and together they carry the character of this Oslo walk.
