Vintage Car and Truck Badge Collage Toned Monochrome Photography
A Garage Wall Filled With Automotive Names
My visit to a folk artist’s property in Nova Scotia began as a quick stop and became a much longer conversation. The older gentleman who owned it invited us into his garage, showed us his collections, and explained the salvaged-material pieces he had made over the years. This wall of automotive badges was among them. I spent time looking through the names, discovering another familiar emblem almost every time my eyes moved across the surface.
I photographed a tall section of the collection, filling the frame with lettering, logos, and metal nameplates. GMC, Pontiac, Mercury, Chevrolet, and Mustang appear among many others, surrounded by model names in scripts, block letters, and small geometric badges. Some are set horizontally; others turn on an angle to fit the spaces between their neighbours. The toned monochrome treatment brings their surfaces together while keeping the raised lettering, worn edges, and darker outlines distinct. From a distance, the photograph reads as a dense pattern. Closer inspection turns it into a collection of individual designs.
What stayed with me was the maker’s enthusiasm for giving salvaged objects another place in the world. His garage displays belonged to the same curiosity I saw in the handmade sculptures and unusual constructions around the property. I wanted this image to keep both the visual abundance and the character of that visit. For an automotive enthusiast’s workshop, office, or recreation room, the photograph offers plenty to explore: familiar vehicle names, changing styles of lettering, and the patient arrangement of one man’s collection.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
