GMC and Pontiac Emblem Collection Toned Monochrome Automotive Photography
Vintage Vehicle Names Fill a Tall Wall Display
I recognized several names before I could take in the whole collection. GMC lettering, Pontiac badges, and a Mustang emblem appeared among a much larger gathering of vehicle nameplates. I photographed this display while exploring automotive memorabilia, spending time with the designs and noticing how many different styles occupied the same wall. The tall composition keeps that abundance intact, with the collection continuing beyond the edges of the frame.
Large block letters share space with delicate scripts and small crests. GMC appears in more than one part of the photograph, while Country Squire lettering and Chevrolet emblems sit among truck and car model names. Some badges run straight across the wall; others lean diagonally into gaps between neighbouring pieces. The pale, textured backing helps their outlines remain visible despite the crowded arrangement. I chose a toned monochrome presentation so the raised lettering and changing metal finishes could lead the image, with muted touches of colour adding small accents.
The appeal for me is partly recognition and partly design. A familiar vehicle name can bring me into one section, but its shape then leads to something nearby: a curved script, a small shield, or a much heavier block of lettering. I wanted the photograph to reward that wandering look. It brings automotive character to a garage, workshop, or recreation room, while also working as a detailed study of typography and metal surfaces. From a distance the wall forms a continuous pattern; up close, it resolves into many separate emblems and nameplates.
