Turquoise Iceland Geothermal Pools Abstract Nature Photography
Two Blue Hollows Surrounded By Cracked Mineral Earth
Two turquoise hollows fill this closer aerial view of Iceland’s geothermal ground. I photographed them with my drone while exploring the area around Lake Mývatn in 2022, looking for a composition that kept both shapes clearly visible. From above, the contrasting colours became more apparent than they had been at ground level. The blue interiors and orange patches around them gave me a strong starting point, but the smaller surface details were just as compelling.
The larger pool occupies the lower right, edged by an irregular ring of cracked ground. The smaller opening sits higher to the left, with a darker recess along one side. Pale bands curve around the two forms, while grey and rust coloured areas connect the space between them. I kept the framing close enough for those textures to matter. There is no sky or distant horizon here; the eye moves from one hollow to the other, then follows the fractured edges and shifting colours outward.
What I enjoy about this photograph is the way it works at two scales. Seen across a room, the pair of blue shapes creates an immediate balance. Up close, the rough rims, fine cracks, and uneven patches make that simple arrangement more complex. The drone allowed me to see those relationships within a single view rather than piece them together while walking. This Iceland nature photograph offers a colourful, almost abstract presence for a contemporary living space. Its forms come directly from the landscape, and that connection makes the intricate surface patterns especially satisfying to study.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
