Fine Tile Patterns Meet Deep Shadow and Open Sky

Several pale roof surfaces meet beneath a broad area of dark sky, their curves creating a clear arrangement of rising shapes. I photographed this Sydney Opera House detail in 2016, focusing on the relationship between the large forms and the fine pattern across their tiles. The close view lets the building become a study of line, light and proportion.

The largest curve fills the right side, while smaller sections overlap on the left and along the lower edge. I like how their meeting point draws attention towards the centre before the eye follows the edges upwards again. A deep shadow crosses one of the left-hand surfaces, adding another shape within the architecture itself. The sky provides open space around those bright contours.

Black and white makes the tile pattern and tonal differences especially clear. From a distance, the image reads as a few strong curves and areas of shade. Up close, the small grids and stepped divisions reveal how much detail sits within each surface. For me, this photograph holds the appeal of seeing a familiar Sydney landmark through its individual forms. As a print, it offers an abstract architectural view with a restrained palette and a precise visual rhythm, suited to a wall display centred on modern buildings, geometric shapes and the interplay of bright surfaces with deep shadow.

About My Fine Art Photography

Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.

I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.

My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
