Derry Terraced Houses in Warm Evening Light Photography

A Yellow Door Along a Receding Brick Terrace

Warm light falls across a long row of brick houses in Derry, Northern Ireland, beneath a cool blue sky. I photographed the street in 2015. A yellow door near the foreground provides a small focal point, while repeated windows and rooftops draw the eye toward the far end of the terrace.

I noticed the row while walking through Derry. Its continuous frontage gives the street a clear rhythm, but the details change from house to house. Painted doors, curtains, a hanging basket and satellite dishes break up the repeated brickwork. I wanted those everyday differences to remain visible within the larger architectural pattern.

The angled view lets the houses recede across the frame. Near windows appear large enough to see their curtains and pale trim, while the distant ones become smaller marks along the wall. The pavement and road follow the same direction, reinforcing that sense of depth. Overhead wires cross the sky without obscuring the roofline.

The contrast between warm brick and blue sky gives this colour photograph its atmosphere. I kept the empty street in view, allowing the buildings and their details to hold attention on their own. For me, the scene is an appealing study of repetition within an ordinary residential street. It brings warm colour and a strong architectural perspective to a hallway, study or living space.

About My Fine Art Photography

Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.

I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.

My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
