Transylvanian Farmhouse Window and Weathered Plaster Colour Photography
Worn Window Frames Above a Crumbling Transylvanian Wall
A broad wooden window holds the centre of this weathered farmhouse wall in Transylvania, Romania. I photographed it during travels through the countryside, drawn to the contrast between its regular frame and the uneven plaster surrounding it. The colour is subdued: pale grey and cream surfaces, dark timber, brown boards and a green bin below the sill. Together they give the scene a quiet, earthy character.
I kept the view close enough to show how the materials meet. Four tall window sections sit beneath a rough wooden beam, their glass reflecting faint shapes outside. Along the wall, plaster has fallen away in irregular patches, exposing horizontal strips and darker layers underneath. Loose boards lean below the window, with more timber gathered at the right. A narrow pipe runs across the wall, passing behind the objects and giving the worn surface another horizontal line.
What held my attention was the mix of order and irregularity. The window still gives the photograph a clear structure, while the peeling surface and scattered wood lead the eye into smaller details. I wanted to preserve the scene as I found it without guessing at the lives inside the building or the reasons for its condition. For someone drawn to rustic architecture and textured surfaces, the image offers an intimate view of a rural place. It also recalls a part of my Romanian journey where an ordinary farmhouse wall became worth stopping for, with its muted colours and visible layers telling their own visual story.
