Red Wine Glass and Bottle Abstract Still Life Photography
Ruby Red Held Between Bright Edges And Darkness
A thin red line is enough to give this photograph its centre of gravity. The wine glass fills the right side of the frame, with a dark bottle behind it and narrow highlights tracing their edges. I made this studio still life by reducing the scene to glass, ruby colour and controlled light.
Most of my photography begins while I am travelling, responding to places and people as I find them. My smaller body of studio work gave me the chance to approach a picture differently. Here I could remove the surrounding world and concentrate on how much of an object needs to remain visible for it to hold the composition.
The bottle’s shoulder curves into a bright vertical edge at the left. The glass has a longer, sloping highlight, interrupted by the level of the wine. Beneath that line, the rounded bowl holds a deeper red glow before narrowing into the stem. Large areas of black keep those few illuminated shapes distinct.
I like the tension between recognition and abstraction. The subjects are familiar, yet their outlines and reflections make a spare arrangement of curves and lines. From across a dining room or wine bar, the red provides a small, concentrated accent against the darkness. Closer viewing brings out the subtler glass contours. It is a wine photograph built around what the light reveals and what I allowed to disappear.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
