I remember standing along the quiet edge of the Venetian waterfront, watching this canal breathe its own rhythm into the city. Venice has a way of folding time, and this scene captures exactly that—an everyday moment that somehow feels centuries old. A water taxi glides across the foreground, leaving a soft ripple that catches the light. At the same time, people gather along the arched footbridge behind it, lingering the way travellers do when a city draws them in. I’ve walked these narrow laneways many times, and they always feel like passages into a much older world.

The architecture here tells the story before I ever touch the shutter. Tall, narrow buildings line the canal in that unmistakable Venetian palette—weathered walls, shuttered windows, façades softened by age. In black and white, those textures come alive even more. Without colour, you start noticing subtle tonal relationships: the dark windows, the bright sweep of reflected water, the soft gradient of stone. Above it all, Venice rises in layers—rooftops, chimneys, distant towers—compressing centuries of history into a single frame.

What makes this photograph meaningful to me is how grounded it is in real experience. I created it while wandering through Venice on foot, following the smaller canals rather than the crowded arteries. The moment felt honest, unpolished, lived in. This is the side of Venice that reveals itself when you step away from the postcard scenes and let the city unfold around you. Every figure on that bridge is absorbed in the moment—talking, watching, strolling—and the town breathes around them.

As a finished print, this piece has a calm, documentary quality. It slots into a wide range of interior styles because it is both descriptive and atmospheric—recognisable without being cliché. The monochrome treatment deepens the sense of place, pushing attention toward shadow, structure, and human presence. It’s the kind of image that slows a room down, the way Venice slows its visitors down.

Every print is crafted from my original on-location photograph. The work is signed by hand and includes a certificate of authenticity. I want collectors to feel the same quiet fascination I felt when capturing it—the sense of standing there in person, taking in the layers of history and movement.

Limited Edition of 10

This photograph is released as a signed and numbered limited edition of only 10 prints in total across all available sizes combined—not 10 prints in each size.

Every size is drawn from the same edition. Whether the photograph is purchased as a small print or at the largest available size, it uses one of the 10 edition numbers.

I personally sign and number each print on the reverse, and every print is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity recording its title, dimensions, medium, edition number, and date of issue.

Once all 10 prints have been sold, the edition will be permanently closed. No additional numbered editions of the photograph will be produced in another size or format.

Premium Archival Fine Art Prints

I personally produce every photograph using archival pigment inks on premium archival paper with a subtle luster finish.

The paper provides rich tonal depth, excellent fine-detail reproduction, and a refined surface that reduces distracting glare under normal indoor lighting. It is especially well suited to both color and black-and-white photography.

Each photograph is sold as an unframed fine art print, allowing it to be framed according to the collector’s space and personal style.

Before a print leaves my studio, I carefully inspect it for color, tonal accuracy, surface quality, and overall presentation. Nothing is outsourced, and every finished print passes through my hands.

Worldwide Delivery Included

Every print is personally produced, inspected, signed, numbered, and carefully packaged by me at my studio in Haliburton, Ontario, Canada.

Worldwide delivery is included in the listed price, so there is no additional shipping charge added during checkout. I select an appropriate tracked delivery service based on the destination, print size, and current shipping requirements.

Delivery times vary by destination and may be affected by customs processing or circumstances beyond my control.

Because I also travel extensively to create new photographic work, studio dispatch may occasionally be delayed while I am away. When that happens, the print will be produced and shipped as soon as I return to the studio.
