Man Close to Chicago Crown Fountain Colour Street Photography
A Red Backpack Beneath a Giant Smiling Screen Face
The man stands very close to the Crown Fountain screen, with his back to the camera and a large smiling face above him. I found that relationship particularly interesting: one face is fully visible, while the person beside it remains turned away. My photograph keeps both within a tall frame, allowing the scale of the displayed image to become immediately clear.
This is Jaume Plensa’s Crown Fountain in Chicago’s Millennium Park. In this view, the tower’s surroundings largely disappear, leaving its glass-block surface to fill the background. The repeated rectangles run across the displayed eyes, nose and mouth, making the face both recognisable and visibly constructed from a grid.
Colour adds another small but definite point of focus. The man’s yellow jacket and red backpack stand out near the lower right, while the much larger face carries softer pink and grey tones. A narrow strip of pavement remains along the bottom. I like how little space the figure needs to change the way the entire screen is read.
For someone interested in public art and the encounters it creates in a city, this print offers a direct, closely framed example. The photograph is less about the broader park than about this particular arrangement: a visitor turned toward the artwork, a smiling face looking outward and a surface of small repeating blocks joining the two scales together.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
