Two Gannets With Raised Crossing Beaks Black and White Bird Photography
Pale Feathered Necks and Sharp Eyes Against Soft Grey
Two gannets lift their long beaks into a narrow crossing shape, their pale heads and necks filling the lower part of the square frame. Dark lines around the eyes and along the bills give the birds a striking definition against the soft grey background. I photographed this close encounter in 2015, concentrating on the shape of their interaction.
Watching them was a quiet experience, and I wanted the image to keep that sense of attention. The close framing removes most of the surroundings, leaving the angle of the beaks and the small differences between the two heads to carry the picture. One bird leans across toward the other, whose bill rises more nearly upright.
Black and white brings the feather texture close to the smooth background tone. The birds are similar, but their positions prevent the composition from becoming perfectly symmetrical. I like the fine dark markings, the pale circular eyes and the subtle shading along each neck. These details reward a closer look without weakening the strong overall shape.
This photograph would suit a reading room, a nature focused study or someone who enjoys close bird portraits. Its restrained tones and uncluttered background make it easy to place beside other monochrome images. The gannets remain the entire subject, with a small moment of contact giving the picture its particular character rather than a broad view of their habitat.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
