Pastel Facades and Everyday Traffic Along an Open Street
A broad street draws the eye between rows of buildings, with pastel colour gathering along the right-hand side. I found this scene while exploring Santa Marta, Colombia, and photographed the everyday activity within its changing architecture. Motorcycles occupy the roadway, while pedestrians gather near the shopfronts and entrances.
The colour is varied without overwhelming the view. Lavender, blue, and green facades sit beside pale walls, and a striped awning adds a stronger pattern near the middle. On the left, exposed scaffolding creates a rough grid across a building face. That contrast makes the street feel specific: finished fronts and work in progress share the same space.
I kept the centre of the road open in the composition. Its long line leads toward the distance, where the buildings and people become smaller. Closer to the camera, the activity is easier to separate into individual moments, but none of those people needs an invented story. Their positions are enough to show how the street is being used. Overhead wires and cloud patches remain part of the ordinary setting.
What interested me was the combination of colour and daily movement. The buildings supply a steady framework, while the motorcycles and people give the scene its immediate life. Made in 2018, the photograph holds a particular view of Santa Marta as I encountered it. As a travel photography print, it offers a street-level look at the city, with room to notice both the pastel architecture and the small details along the pavement.
