Massey Harris 90 Special Farm Machinery Black and White Photography
Faded Massey Harris Lettering on a Saskatchewan Farmstead
The pale Massey Harris lettering still stands out across this weathered machinery panel, with the smaller 90 Special marking just below. I photographed the detail while exploring an old farmstead in rural Saskatchewan. In black and white, the metal’s mottled surface becomes as prominent as the name, turning a familiar piece of agricultural equipment into a close study of texture and shape.
I kept the view tight around the panel rather than showing the entire machine. A narrow upright fitting runs down the left, ending in a circular fastener, while an angled section enters from the right. A broad rounded guard overlaps the lower edge of the lettering. Those separate parts interrupt the flat surface and give the photograph depth. Grass stems reach into the frame from below, and only a small strip of sky remains above the machinery.
What I liked was the way the branding survived within the worn finish. Some letters are bright and clear, while others break into the darker marks around them. The metal holds many small variations that become easier to see once the colour is removed. I wanted the photograph to keep those details without inventing the machine’s working history. For someone interested in vintage farm equipment, industrial surfaces or Canadian rural imagery, it offers a distinctive accent for a room. For me, it recalls a Saskatchewan stop where a side panel, a few mechanical shapes and an old painted name held enough visual interest for a photograph.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
