Brown Bear Cub Chewing Grass Black and White Wildlife Portrait Photography
Dark Eyes And A Soft Muzzle Amid Fine Fur
I kept my distance, crouched low and waited while this young brown bear ate grass. When it looked up with strands still in its mouth, I made this photograph. The image dates from 2011. Its close framing brings the bear’s face forward, with both eyes, the dark nose and the fine texture of its fur clearly visible.
The head angles slightly toward the right. Long pale strands curve across the forehead and cheeks, while darker areas around the eyes give the face definition. I like how the fur changes direction over different parts of the head, creating a detailed pattern around the simpler shapes of the muzzle and nose.
Grass remains visible near the mouth and at the lower right edge. Those small stems connect the portrait to the feeding moment without taking attention away from the bear. The background is softly defined, giving the face a clear outline on the right and leaving most of the square frame filled by the animal itself.
Black and white emphasizes the individual strands of fur and the darker features within them. The photograph feels intimate to me because such a small gesture carries it: a young bear looking up while eating. It has a quieter character than a broad wildlife landscape, inviting a closer look at the eyes and mouth. For a reading nook, cabin or space with an interest in bears, it offers a detailed portrait with a gentle, attentive presence.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
