Ellis Island Hospital Window and Radiator Colour Abandoned Interior Photography
Faded Blue Green Paint Around a Centred Wooden Frame
The window and radiator sit one above the other against a wall of cracked plaster and peeling paint. Their clear shapes provide a centre within the room’s more irregular surfaces. I photographed this abandoned Ellis Island Hospital interior in 2019, interested in the quiet arrangement of an ordinary window, an old heating fixture and the marks left across the surrounding wall. The close view gives these small architectural details the whole composition.
Faded blue and green remain beneath patches of pale plaster. On the left, the paint breaks into scattered shapes; on the right, long cracks spread outward in a branching pattern. I like the contrast between those rough surfaces and the window’s straight wooden frame. Small wall fittings on either side add another pair of details at roughly the same height.
Light enters through the upper panes, making them the brightest area of the photograph. Below, horizontal slats introduce a tighter repeating pattern within the darker opening. The radiator continues that repetition with narrow upright sections, set just above a dusty floor. A shadow falls to its right, giving the lower part of the room depth.
The restrained colour carries soft brown, grey, muted blue and green through the scene. It allows the worn materials to remain distinct while keeping the interior visually calm. As a print, this photograph offers an architectural study of an abandoned room, suited to an appreciation of aged surfaces, simple symmetry and the detail found in historic interiors.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
