Vinales Valley Palms and Rural Hills Colour Landscape Photography
Green Crowns Above Red Fields And Rounded Ridges
Palms rise above the foreground of this rural view in the Vinales Valley, Cuba. Beyond them, patches of cultivated land stretch toward a line of steep, rounded hills. I photographed the valley in 2017, bringing the near foliage and the distant landscape into a single view of the countryside.
The palm crowns form a loose grouping across the lower part of the frame. Their long fronds spread in different directions, with darker stems and tangled vegetation beneath them. Green shades range from deep olive to brighter yellow, while a few bare branches introduce finer lines at the left edge. I find that varied foreground useful because it gives the open valley a textured starting point.
Farther away, reddish earth appears between green areas of farmland. The hills rise abruptly behind the fields, some standing apart and others joining into a longer ridge. Light catches their upper contours, while shadows describe the steeper sides. Their uneven shapes keep the horizon interesting without breaking the overall calm of the landscape.
A blue sky fills the upper portion, crossed by a few small, light clouds. It leaves breathing room above the more detailed ground and helps separate the green hills from the foreground palms. What holds the photograph together for me is that change in scale, from individual fronds to an entire valley. The warm earth, layered greens and open sky make this a welcoming rural landscape print for someone drawn to Cuba’s countryside and the spaciousness of a distant view.
