Man in a New York Station Passage Black and White Photography
Ceiling Lights and Wall Frames Lead Towards a Figure
The long passage gives this New York station photograph a strong direction before the man comes into view. Ceiling lights, handrails and framed advertisements all narrow towards the far end of the corridor. I photographed the scene with a broad area of floor in the foreground, letting those converging lines guide the eye towards the small figure.
His light shirt stands out against the darker space behind him. He is walking towards the camera, placed near the centre of the passage but occupying only a small part of the frame. A few other figures are visible farther away. I find that the distance keeps the photograph focused on the relationship between a person and the built space around him.
The corridor is orderly without being perfectly uniform. Frames of different sizes repeat along the walls, pipes run beneath the ceiling, and a long reflection extends along the floor. Black and white makes those changes in brightness easier to follow. The central lights become a chain of pale shapes, while the handrails provide thinner lines beside them.
I wanted the depth of the passage to remain clear, with the closest floor and ceiling both included. That gives the viewer room to move through the image rather than meeting the subject immediately. The man brings a human scale to the architecture, while the rows of lights and wall frames continue beyond him into the station.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
