New York Red Steel Door and Flags Colour Architectural Photography
Horizontal Shutter Lines Within a Dark Brick Facade
A bright red shutter fills most of this doorway, with a smaller red entrance set into its left side. I photographed the New York facade in 2017, drawn to that concentrated area of colour against the dark brick. Three small American flags add another set of shapes, their striped fabric sitting above the entrance and beside a wall-mounted mailbox.
The shutter’s closely spaced horizontal ribs give the image a strong rhythm. They run across the frame in fine, repeated lines, interrupted by the smooth panel of the smaller door. I like how those two red surfaces remain distinct through texture, even while they share the same bold colour. The doorway’s straight sides keep the arrangement firmly contained.
Small details become more noticeable on a closer look. The number 612 appears on the door, and worn marks gather near the handle and across parts of the shutter. A cable curves over the upper section, while the flags introduce diagonal lines against the surrounding rectangles.
For me, the photograph finds its character in the balance between a simple overall design and the everyday details within it. The red gives the view an immediate presence, and the dark masonry offers a quieter border. As a colour print, it brings a distinctive New York doorway into focus, suited to an interest in urban architecture, Americana and wall art with a strong red accent.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
