Parallel Tracks Lead Toward Cliffs Fading Into Cloud
Parallel tracks run through the snow toward a mountain wall softened by cloud. I made this photograph in Norway in 2023, drawn to the straightforward pull of the road and the delicate trees along its edges. The nearest branches are clear and intricate, while the distant rock faces appear through a pale veil. That difference gives the view both a familiar starting point and a feeling of distance.
Standing in front of the scene, I felt as though the road led toward the edge of the known landscape. It carries the eye forward with very little interruption: broad white ground in the foreground, narrowing tracks, dark woodland and then the snowy cliffs. I like how the composition lets that journey happen naturally. The bare trees add detail along the sides while leaving the centre open. Their fine lines echo some of the longer snow streaks on the mountains.
Black and white makes the road’s subtle surface marks easier to appreciate. Grey tracks and scattered dark specks give the snow texture, and small rocks punctuate the banks beneath the trees. The evergreen band farther away provides a firmer dark shape before the mountains soften into the sky. This is a winter image with a strong sense of perspective, suited to a hallway, study or living space where a quiet view can draw the eye inward. For me, its appeal rests in that simple invitation to follow the road and look farther into the cloud covered terrain.
