British Columbia Forested Ridges and Fog Black and White Landscape Photography

Pale Mist Winds Between Dark Slopes Above Water

I remember watching the fog move in and out between these forested slopes in British Columbia. I photographed the scene in 2011, drawn to the way the mist alternately revealed and softened the contours of the land. The image holds several layers of ridge and cloud above a narrow strip of water, giving the landscape depth through a restrained range of tones.

A steep wooded slope occupies the left side, its trees forming a sharply defined edge against the paler fog. Farther back, other ridges appear as dark islands within bands of white. I like how the repeated slopes give the eye a route across the photograph, even where the mist hides the valleys between them. The water below adds a quieter horizontal surface beneath all that rising ground.

Clouds fill much of the upper frame, with brighter rounded forms emerging beside softer streaks. Black and white brings the difference between forest and mist forward. Individual trees remain visible near the foreground edge, while the distant ridges gradually lose their detail. That transition makes the photograph feel spacious without relying on a clear view of every part of the landscape.

This coastal British Columbia image offers a calm, substantial presence for someone who enjoys wooded mountain scenery. Its horizontal arrangement gives the layers room to unfold across a wall, and its neutral tones suit a space where texture matters more than strong colour. The photograph preserves what I found compelling while watching the fog: a landscape that kept changing its visible shape while retaining the strength of the forest beneath it.

About My Fine Art Photography

Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.

I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.

My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
