SAHMRI Geometric Interior Wall Photography in Black and White
A Curving Grid of Triangles and Deep Shadows
The wall seems to bend away even as its repeated lines draw me closer. Inside the SAHMRI building in Adelaide, Australia, I was drawn to this sweep of geometric structure. My black and white photograph follows the interior wall’s curve, moving from the bright triangular grid at the upper left into the darker, denser pattern on the right.
I like how the repetition changes across the frame. Each section belongs to the same system, yet the angle gives it a different appearance. Near the right edge, the framework feels tall and substantial; farther away, the lines compress and become almost a fine mesh. Light catches some edges while leaving other surfaces in deep grey.
A curved white band at the lower left interrupts the grid. It gives the eye a smoother line to follow and makes the surrounding angular pattern feel more pronounced. I kept that contrast in the composition because it stops the photograph from becoming a uniform study of repeated triangles. There is a sense of looking through and around the architecture, rather than simply at a flat surface.
The vertical format strengthens that feeling of height. In monochrome, the image becomes an abstract arrangement of bright openings, dark panels and narrow lines, while still retaining its connection to a real building. I see it working in a modern office or a quiet contemporary interior where geometry can carry the interest. Its appeal to me is the way a precise structural rhythm becomes fluid through perspective.
