Torn Curtain and Window Light Black and White Photography

Pale Fabric Falls Against a Cracked Wall in Shadow

Light comes through the fabric covering this window, revealing its fine weave and the long folds hanging below the sill. A large tear changes the curtain’s shape, leaving a loose curve against the darker wall. I photographed the detail in Clarence Town, Bahamas, in 2010, drawn to the quiet contrast between the illuminated cloth and the shadow around it.

The window occupies the left side of the frame. Its edges provide a simple rectangle, but the fabric makes that shape less regular: narrow folds run downward, a seam crosses the brighter section, and torn areas interrupt the lower edge. Beneath it, the wall has a rougher texture that remains visible in the softer light.

On the right, a long crack crosses the darker plaster. Smaller marks appear below it, giving that relatively empty area its own detail. I kept this space beside the window because it balances the brighter surface without adding another competing subject.

Working in black and white allowed the photograph to stay focused on texture and light. The curtain is delicate where the light passes through it, then darker and heavier where it falls against the wall. Those changes make an ordinary window detail worth a longer look. This print offers a restrained, atmospheric study for someone drawn to old interiors, worn surfaces, or quiet monochrome photographs. Its strongest impression comes from the simple meeting of light, cloth, and shadow.

About My Fine Art Photography

Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.

I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.

My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
