Hallgrimskirkja Ceiling Black and White Architectural Print
Vaulted Ribs Meet in a Symmetrical Pattern Overhead
Looking straight up changes the church into a pattern. Beneath Hallgrimskirkja in Reykjavik, Iceland, I was drawn to the meeting of pale vaults and darker ribs, repeated across the ceiling with a quiet sense of order. This black and white photograph keeps the view tightly framed, letting the overhead structure stand apart from the rest of the interior.
The ribs curve towards a line through the centre, dividing the ceiling into a sequence of pointed forms. Some edges are bright and sharply defined, while others carry softer shadows. Those small tonal differences give the surfaces depth, even where the composition first appears almost flat and abstract.
I wanted the symmetry to be clear without losing the feeling of looking into a real architectural space. The broad areas between the ribs are not blank: light moves gently across them, revealing subtle variations that make each section slightly different. The curves near the edges suggest the larger vaults continuing beyond the photograph.
What stayed with me was the calm I felt standing beneath this ceiling. The lines held my attention and invited a slower look, with the simplicity of the design carrying as much presence as its height. The print offers an Icelandic church view through a more abstract lens, suited to someone drawn to architectural geometry and restrained monochrome tones. It can be read first as a balanced pattern, then as a ceiling with volume, light, and a strong sense of space above the viewer.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
