Repeated Glass Forms Catch Light within Deep Shadow

The cellar was cool and still when I stepped inside, beneath a villa in central Mexico. A narrow stone stairway and an iron door had brought me to a collection of bottles that caught the light in an unexpected way. In this close photograph, their repeated round forms become a pattern of pale glass and deep shadow.

The light is strongest through the centre, where individual circles are easiest to distinguish. Towards the top and bottom, the forms soften and darken, giving the pattern depth rather than leaving it as an even arrangement. Some bottles catch a warm glow; others remain almost entirely black. Those small differences keep the repetition lively, letting the eye move from one shape to the next without finding two identical areas.

I was interested in the point where the bottles become less literal. Their familiar shape remains present, but the closely framed view also reads as an abstract study of curves, spacing, and light. The cellar’s wider surroundings stay outside the image, allowing the glass itself to carry the atmosphere. This is wine-related art with a quieter, more graphic character than a table setting or a bottle label. In a dining room, kitchen, or tasting space, the print can offer both a recognisable connection to wine and a richly patterned surface to explore. For me, its appeal comes from a small discovery within the cellar: ordinary bottles becoming something unexpected when seen through the light.

About My Fine Art Photography

Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.

I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.

My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
