Berlin Reichstag Dome Curves in Monochrome Architectural Photography
Broad Sweeping Bands Contrast with a Fine Ribbed Surface
Broad pale bands curve across the left side of the frame, meeting a tightly ribbed surface on the right. This black and white architectural photograph looks closely at the Reichstag Dome in Berlin, Germany. The vertical composition makes the building’s different scales of repetition its subject: large sweeping forms beside many fine parallel lines.
There is a clear division, but the view does not feel split in two. A long curved edge connects the wider bands to the smaller ribs, carrying the eye downward before turning near the bottom. I find that line especially useful because it gives a route through a scene that could otherwise read as separate patterns.
The spaces between the pale bands are darker and more complicated. Supports and reflected surfaces are visible within them, adding depth behind the smooth outer shapes. On the right, the narrow lines remain more consistent, interrupted by a few stronger upright divisions. That difference creates an architectural rhythm without relying on a view of the complete dome.
I chose to concentrate on how the forms fit together. The photograph allows the structure to become almost abstract while keeping enough detail to remain a recognisable interior study. Monochrome brings its lighter surfaces and deep gaps into a restrained palette, where a slight change in tone can reveal another layer. The result is a Berlin architecture print shaped by perspective, repetition, and one connecting curve.
